Dinner out in Spain

When we were touring Spain some years ago, we got a little late to our hotel. The front desk clerk told us about an restaurant, that was open late, but we should not get frightened away by the outside looks of the building. It was just around the corner and up the steep street a bit. So we went and sure enough I was glad they told us, because we would not have gone into that building otherwise. It actually was a very nice restaurant once you were in it, and the food was very good.

Now last year when I was looking for inspiration for a painting by strolling through the internet photo websites I found this picture. The doors on the building were closed, but I immediately recognized the place: It was the street with that restaurant in Spain.

Well not only does it have a certain atmosphere, but it also was a place we've been to. How much more do you need to have for the perfect subject for a painting? So here it is with the restaurant door open as we saw it back then. "Dinner out in Spain".
